Clitoral Hood Reduction
Clitoral Hood Reduction
Some women find that there is too much extra tissue over the clitoris or along the sides of the clitoral hood and they don’t like the way it looks or feels. Others feel that the excess skin interferes with stimulation of the clitoris during sexual intimacy.
Removing this excess skin will change the appearance of this area. If desired, exposing more of the clitoris to stimulation during sexual activity may heighten pleasurable sensations.
The clitoris and the clitoral hood are very delicate area and over the years Dr. Allan has developed techniques that result in a virtually painless procedure with minimal recovery time and minimal risks. The procedure is done with local anaesthetic which means you are able to drive to and from your appointment if you choose. Clitoral hood reduction takes about an hour to perform and involves anaesthetizing the clitoral hood and trimming the excess tissue with a laser or radiofrequency device. Stitches are used to support the incision while it heals. This is a very safe procedure and risks are very minimal.
Following clitoral hood reduction you will not have any discomfort for about four to six hours. This gives you time to get home and get comfortable. When the freezing comes out most women find it uncomfortable enough for the next 24 hours that they will need strong medication. We will send you home with two different kinds of medications and an ice pack. We recommend that you take the medications regularly for the first 24 hours. After that, many women reduce the amount of medication. Most women will take three to four days off work or school. You should reduce your activity significantly for the first two weeks and wait for a full six weeks before returning to full activities and heavy workouts. The stitches will dissolve on their own.
Clitoral hood reduction is a very delicate procedure that should only be entrusted to a surgeon trained in vaginal surgery. Dr. Allan has performed hundreds of these procedures over the past 20 years and we will be happy to show you before and after photos when you come in for your consultation.
